actually it is possible for that weapon to exist in the end of the movie. think about it kinda like a measuring tape..you hit the button and it comes back once its all out..except there was probably a a switch or button on the sword that allowed him to make it disconnect ot become...umm limp...
A similar weapon was used in the movie City Hunter with Jackie Chan...the boss uses a baton instead but then hits a button and the thing becomes separated.
