Gamegrene and Movable Hype

We've tried to make it as innocent, and unchanging as possible. We've checked all our URLs, duplicated all our features, and prayed pathetically to our liege. Yes, the entire backend of Gamegrene.com has changed. What have we broke?

We've tried to make it as innocent, and unchanging as possible. We've checked all our URLs, duplicated all our features, and prayed pathetically to our liege. Yes, the entire backend of Gamegrene.com has changed. What have we broke?

Early Tuesday morning, December 18th, whilst the masses flood the roads and the malls and the places you want to be, we switched from our custom backend code to the latest version of Movable Type. We figured "hey! everyone's out wasting their money! what better time to make a changeover than now?"

So that we did. For now, you won't see any new features whatsoever. We're in phase one of the changeover - duplicate the existing site without causing problems. Over the next few days, we'll be testing everything to make sure the magic is still there. If you've noticed that we've broken something, please let us know by commenting below. If we broke the commenting feature, email us at morbus@disobey.com.

Once everything has been tested 100%, we'll start adding new features. Oh yes, we like new features. Yes, indeed. As we add each new feature, we'll blurb about it below so that you can stay up to date on our madness.

Thanks!

Looks to be working so far.
Did you know that Movable Type is an anagram for "Be my top veal"?

Heh! I am damn sure that the people over at Movable Type *need* to know this :)

One of the nicer benefits of Movable Type is the easy editing environment. The homebrew we were using before didn't have any sort of admin interface, so it was always an FTP jump in and out.

Web editing allows some quick revisions and addition, one of which we call "Other Articles In This Series", and you can see it in action at http://gamegrene.com/news/dragoncon_2001.shtml

Welp, as I'm sure you can tell, we've changed the way our comment system appears. It uses less space than before, but also comes with a nice spam protector - when you enter your email, it'll be encased in REMOVE ME so that spam harvesters can't do the nasty. More revisions to the commenting system will happen soon - we'll tell you about them here.

Also, we added a "return to top" linky thing. It's not infinitely useful, but does have it's nice moments. Whatdya think? What would you like to see?

Added breadcrumb trails, as well as removed the huge "donate to us" images from the right hand side, and stuck them in the high eyeball areas. Yay.

Kevin, Its good to see this site still going strong as well as a legion of new contributers. Its also good to see you've given a large portion of the responsibilities away so you can spread your efforts among different sites.

LOL, I also noticed my contributions are still archived. (the realms of kaos thing had those creators emailing me a bunch about why I didnt like it) Its good to see gaming strong.

Smile, Cthulu loathes you...

Steve

Hey there, Steve! Long time no see. Incidentally, the newest feature I've added will be of notice to the Gamegrene writers - now, each article includes a link to all the other pieces that the author has published on Gamegrene. For instance, you can see all of your pieces at http://www.gamegrene.com/writers.shtml#stillb0rn

Upgraded to MT 1.4 - almost all of the custom hacks I added here have been added to the distributed code. Whoo. If you notice anything broken, be sure to let us know, of course.

Welp, just did a quick upgrade to Movable Type 2.0. Things are
looking jim-dandy, but if you notice anything wrong, lemme know.

Upgraded to Movable Type 2.11. Will be playing some more with
new features (and old revised features) soon. Woot woot and all.

Upgraded to 2.5.1.

Upgraded to 2.6.3.

Moved from BerkDB to MySQL. Hopefully quicker.

Another test. Ignore the man behind the curtain.

Even though I have only the faintest idea of what you all talk about, I must say thanks for trying to improve the site for us ^__^.
