Tabletop Gaming

Hunkered down behind a handful of dice or stack of manuals? Itching to tap, flip, crank, roll, save, or measure? Discuss paper, board, card, and war gaming here.

has anyone come across avalomhilly http://www.grognard.com/aides.html near the bottom
its a game assist program, you can host board games , wargames, lots of types of games, it looks crap till you get a Map in there!

I always sit around and think of ideas for campaigns. Some of these ideas make it into campaigns I'm already running, and some eventually become campaigns of their own. But there's always ideas that just don't work for one reason or another, or slip through the cracks and get forgotten about.

I recently stumbled upon the "Conquer The Galaxy From Home" (www.gamegrene.com/node/220) article here on Gamegrene, and subsequently the "Twilight" website, (www.geocities.com/jpcerutti/Twilight/TwilightIntro.html). After falling in love with the both of them I determined to run my own version. Anybody interested? Also, which of the two would people rather play, or perhaps a homebrew mix? If there is subsequent interest, I'll put someting together.

Ah, the wonders of technology.

I was always a hardhead that figured he'd never use a laptop at the table...that changed when I decided to stop buying books and start purchasing pdf's instead. I couldn't be bothered to print it all out and get it bound somehow. Next thing I knew I was keeping all my notes on it and using programs I had never considered before as roleplaying aids.

I was designing the next adventure for my modern day horror/sci fi campaign. The PCs will be recruited into a special agency with the government and I have all those adventures planned and ready to go. They have already finished the first adventure, based on Robert R. McCammon's Stinger.

I'm going to be starting a new campaign soon (I always have two on the go, and alternate to prevent player and GM burnout...I run one until the end of a story arc, then switch to the other and do a back and forth like that) and I'm going to flirt with madness. LOL. The player is going to have to make a completely batshit crazy character. How am I going to accomplish this you ask? By having them make a character for a vastly different part of my setting, from a vastly different culture, etc. How the world is explained to them will seem straight forward, but little do they know that they are somewhere else doing something else...and those aren't orcs. Or something like that. I hate orcs, so that was just an example. For another example: PC is sneaking through the woods tracking kobolds that took her baby, while orcs chase her because she took their pies. I describe this in it's entirety as though it's really happening, while in fact the PC is actually chasing street urchins that stole her dirty catlady shawl that she keeps a moldy turnip wrapped up in, and the city watch is chasing her for stealing pie in the market place.

Hey all! How's things been round this way? I've been on a hiatus from message boards in general for the last while so I could focus on some more important things (like designing my new setting and starting a radio show over the internet). I guess that didn't need to take as long as it did though. How's the Gamegrene gang been in the last thousand years or so since I left? Did anyone get to see Sifolis' massive bookshelf of setting material yet? I'd still really like to see a picture of all those binders lined up in a row, just for kicks.

Do veterns find it difficult sometimes to accept new trends, find new players, feel isolated when they visit the local comic book shop, and find themselves playing "in the closet" because of their age?

I never thought it would happen, but I've given up on dice. Despite it's awful format and very poorly written rules, I've stumbled upon the Marvel Universe RPG and love it's cinematic feel. I intend to use it for all my campaigns from now on...even fantasy.

What would you most like to see as a roleplaying game or supplement and why?

My wish list would have to include:

  • The New Battlestar Galactica. This is a great mix of violence, thriller, sci fi, but with a human (and sometimes not so human) heart. It just begs to be put into a roleplaying game.
  • Syndicate content
