Tabletop Gaming

Hunkered down behind a handful of dice or stack of manuals? Itching to tap, flip, crank, roll, save, or measure? Discuss paper, board, card, and war gaming here.

I love NFL Football and play Madden Games, ESPN, and others, including a boardgame called Bloodbowl (remember that?).

I have been thinking about creating a table top game based on the NFL. I have stats from the electronic games for individuals, and know how to incorporate those stats during a game on an individual basis.

I am about to start running my very first Shadowrun game. I have a basic knowledge of the system and world, but one of my players is a guy who loves everything Shadowrun and has been playing the system for over a decade. A Shadowrun Nazi, if you will.

I'll be honest. My favorite genre of all time is modern fantasy (no, I'm not talking Dragon Wars...shudder). I'm looking for a system, or several systems that are really good for modern fantasy, or old western fantasy, or depression fantasy - really, anything not medieval.

Out of curiousity; what resources, materials, books, etc are influencing everyones campaigns currently? I get stuck in my groove too often sometimes and want to see what everyone else is flipping through when looking for ideas these days.

Alrighty, after reading an article by Calamar (http://www.gamegrene.com/node/791), I settled on the idea that your standard fantasy campaign should have some unique athletic competitions. Most of my favorite console and computer games had minigame-liek things, soem of which were plot-central, others not. Sports are important, And we're going to make a few. Well, we're gonna try. Now I'm not gonna aks for game mechanics and crunchy numbers, because then they wouldn't port well from sytem to system. I'm asking for actual game ideas, preferably with some idsals and behaviors attached. I'll go first to show you what I mean.

Okay, so I'm creating a campaign world set at the very end of the stone age. This is an idea I've been wanting to do for a long time and actually got from a friend of mine. I want it to be almost brutally realistic, focusing on the savagery of a world in transition, but also, if the PCs go all explorer, have a large amount of mystery concerning the past of the world, finding long forgotten human and other civilizations even when the current is very much hunter-gatherer/tribal. Because I want to emphasize the brutality, because it makes sense, and because I don't like magic items, I really want to do this low-magic.

I'm not cocky enough to lable this as news, but I'm back after an absence of way too long. If you don't know who I am, I am the dreaded dark dude Theophenes, the man who makes less sense than the old off-topickers. Are Olly and Shark and all those other loons still around?

A story on one can have her , a new noir RPG by Jonas Ferry
Girlfriend, Rat

I haven't been around the board much recently. I am getting married in July, am working full-time out-of-town, and running a part-time martial arts school 5 nights a week. Life is pretty busy.

I know that it is busy for everyone out there too. You don't have time to invest in a lot of the new things that come up and personally, I wouldn't be able to commit any time to learning a new gaming system at the moment. However, I am asking you to talk a moment and flip through my updated (but not completed) website, sign the guest book on the way through, and give me some criticism on the presentation of the material, the concepts, or anything else that you think of.
